The synopsis for the 10th episode of the TV drama "Monster" (Kantele/Fuji TV, Mondays at 10pm), starring actress Shuri, which will air on December 16th, has been released.
"Monster" is a unique legal entertainment story in which Shuri, who plays the lead role in her first primetime drama series, plays the mysterious monster lawyer Ryoko Kannami, who is not bound by "common sense" and faces her opponents by "removing emotions". She faces various problems unique to the Reiwa era, where the law sometimes does not keep up, and faces court battles as if it were a game. The script is written by Atsuko Hashibe, who wrote the "Boku Series Trilogy" including "Boku no Ikiru Michi" (Kantele/Fuji TV).
In episode 10, Ryoko (Shuri) learns from an art dealer who was previously the lawyer of her father, Haruaki Tsubukura (Arata Furuta), that her father was once involved in a case in Gunma. At the same time, a pregnant woman, Sakura Yokozawa (Atsuko Maeda), comes to visit her from Gunma. Since King, the leader of the illegal part-time work organization who was arrested, is from Gunma, Ryoko begins to think that Gunma may be the reason why Tsubukura left home 12 years ago.
Sakura, who returned to her hometown of Yamaharu Village in Gunma Prefecture for the first time in 15 years, said with a gloomy look on her face that the vegetation in the village had withered and that her parents and the villagers looked visibly unwell. She said that she suspected that the cause of this was an industrial waste treatment plant called Sakami Clean that had opened in the village. She complained to the town hall but they wouldn't take her seriously, and when she tried to sue Sakami Clean for compensation and to have them stop operating, she was not taken seriously by a lawyer in the neighboring city of Motoki. This was because it was rare and extremely difficult for an individual to sue for environmental pollution.
Sugiura (Jesse) is more reluctant than usual to accept this request, but Ryoko is still drawn to the keyword Gunma. As expected, it turns out that Sakami Clean's legal advisor is Tsuburai... and so the story unfolds.
The trailer shows how, after coming to the consultation of Sakura, a pregnant woman played by Maeda, Ryoko gradually unravels the truth about her father's missing 12 years. The trailer also shows Ryoko and Sugiura (Jesse from SixTONES) dressed in matching white duffle coats, Sugiura raising his voice at Ryoko, wearing suspicious sunglasses and speaking broken Japanese, and other scenes of Sugiura.
Regarding the relationship between Sugiura and Ryoko, Jesse said, "I think we've gotten closer with each episode. I hope that the sense of teamwork and bond between us is gradually building up." He also said, "The other day, Tamura Atsushi told me that he was watching 'Monster'. He said, 'Jesse's facial expressions and reactions are really good.'" He was pleased that "I'm grateful that so many people have told me that Sugiura's presence brings out a softer side to the story." In episode 10, he said, "I'll try my best to rap," and called out, "It's part of being a lawyer and being there for her, but I hope you won't miss that part."
