It has been announced that the TV anime "3-nen Z-gumi Ginpachi-sensei", based on the spin-off novel of the popular manga "Gintama" by Hideaki Sorachi, "Gintama: 3-nen Z-gumi Ginpachi-sensei", will be broadcast on TV Tokyo from October 2025. "3-nen Z-gumi Ginpachi-sensei" will be an anything-goes "Gintama Multiverse Anime" in which the characters of "Gintama" move the setting from Edo to a school and enjoy a slightly unusual youth. With the catchphrase "It doesn't matter if you're a yoko or an yoko, Gintama-style youth is here!", the homeroom teacher Ginpachi Sakata, whose trademark is his sloppy white coat and dead fish eyes, and the tricky students wreak havoc on the school stage. Moriwaki Makoto will be the general director, Higashida Natsumi will be the director, and the production will be by BN Pictures.
The released teaser visual depicts Ginpachi-sensei, also known as Ginpachi Sakata, and Gintoki Sakata from "Gintama". A promotional video was also released, but the footage was not ready in time, and it was announced that "the official promotional video will be released at Jump Festa 2025."
Osaki Tomohito, who worked on the novel "Gintama: Ginpachi Sensei, Year 3 Class Z," commented, "Can they really make an anime out of this?! The novel version was written without much thought about things like the seating order of the students. I was thinking that, but it seems like they did a good job in that regard. Some parts of the anime are exactly like the novel, but there are also parts that are completely different. Director Moriwaki said, "I have vivid memories of reading Gintama when it was first serialized. I think the cover was in color too. The illustrations felt fresh, and when I read it I found it interesting so I kept reading. I was very happy to be involved with Ginpachi after more than a decade, and I was full of motivation. Furthermore, several members of the Gintama staff were involved, including Takeuchi (Shinji) as the character designer. It was a difficult project to find the right balance to make it something that could be enjoyed as Gintama without destroying the image of Gintama. I hope that all the fans will enjoy it together." Director Higashida commented, "It's been about a year and seven months since the anime was announced. A lot has happened in that time. There were times when I wondered if it would really be completed... But it looks like we will be able to deliver it to everyone safely (probably). The extremely eccentric students are causing a stir in the small box of Class 3-Z. Of course, some familiar faces and faces and faces will also appear. "Gintama" is an action drama set in a fictional Edo. In a world ruled by aliens called Amanto, the sweet-toothed and reckless samurai Sakata Gintoki solves various cases brought to Yorozuya with his friends Shinpachi and Kagura. The series began serialization in December 2003 in Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha), and the final episode aired on June 20, 2019.
The first season of the TV anime aired from 2006 to 2010, the second from 2011 to 2013, the third from 2015 to 2016, and the fourth from 2017 to 2018. The animated film Gintama: The Movie - The New Benizakura Arc was released in 2010, and Gintama: The Movie: The Final Chapter - Be Forever Yorozuya in 2013. The film Gintama: The Final was released in 2021.
