Actor Yuki Yamada appeared at a production report press conference for the film "Beethoven Fabrication" (directed by Seki Kazuaki, to be released on September 12th) held in Tokyo on August 6th.
This live-action film is based on Shiho Kagehara's historical non-fiction book "Beethoven Fabrication: A Famous Producer Lies" (published by Kawade Bunko). The film focuses on the scandal surrounding the alteration of Beethoven's phrasebook by Schindler, who served as Beethoven's secretary and wrote his posthumous biography.
Yamada plays the lead role of Schindler, a loyal secretary who, driven by a sense of mission to protect his idol Beethoven, played by Furuta Arata, struggles to transform him from a "vulgar, dirty old man (truth)" into a "holy genius musician (lie)" after his death.
Regarding his image of Beethoven, Yamada said, "All I knew was that he was probably a genius. So I played Beethoven's music every day to understand it. There are notes of conversations left, so I can see the data. I looked at the notes from that time and used my imagination to play Schindler."
Regarding the existence of "geniuses," Yamada said, "I'm an ordinary person, so I do admire talent, but there's a line in a manga that says, 'Admiration is the emotion furthest from understanding.' I try not to admire people as much as possible. If I admire them too much, I end up just thinking, 'Amazing!!' and not trying to understand, and I get stuck. This time I played a character who admires Beethoven, and I think I was able to play that role by looking at it from a bird's eye view."
Furuta, screenwriter Bakarhythm, and director Seki also appeared at the press conference.
