"If you're sad, I think it's okay to cry. What you need to do now, what you should do, is be honest with your feelings. Can you tell me? What's going on in your heart right now, Ren?"
When questioned by child welfare officer Hachimura ( Shunsuke Kazama), Ren tearfully reveals his true feelings, which he had not been able to express until now: "I miss you. I'm lonely. I want to see my mother."
After hearing Ren's true feelings, his father Goro (Hirayama Yusuke) embraces him tightly. Ren's grandfather Kida Shigeru (Hotaru Yukijiro) watches from nearby.
Hachimura told Goro and Shigeru, "I think the first thing you should do is share your sadness and loneliness. If you're sad, say you're sad. If you're lonely, say you're lonely. You two are the only ones who can truly understand that."
Shigeru tells Ren, "I'm sorry, Ren. I was sad too. I was lonely too," and Goro is shown declaring his determination to Ren, saying, "I agree. From now on, I'll cherish how Ren feels now."
On social media, people were talking about the incident, saying things like, "I'm glad Ren was able to say he was lonely," "Of course he was lonely, he is. Sometimes he doesn't have anyone to tell him he's lonely," "The child actors were so good at acting I couldn't stop crying," "You shouldn't suppress feelings of loneliness or sadness," and "You really should listen to when children say they're lonely."
The drama is set in a seaside child consultation center and depicts Natsui Tsubasa (played by Fukuhara) as a new child welfare officer who faces various children and parents and grows together with them. This will be Fukuhara's first lead role in a "Getsuku" drama.
