The seventh season of the TV anime series "Natsume's Book of Friends," based on the popular manga by Yuki Midorikawa, "Natsume's Book of Friends: Urushi," will begin airing on TV Tokyo and other networks from October 7th. This is the first new TV anime in about six years since the sixth season, "Natsume's Book of Friends: Roku," aired in 2017, and will feature Kamiya Hiroshi as Natsume Takashi and Inoue Kazuhiko as Nyanko-sensei/Madar, as in the previous seasons.

"Natsume's Book of Friends" was first published as a one-shot in "LaLaDX" (Hakusensha) in 2003, and is currently being serialized in "LaLa" (same publisher). The story follows Natsume, who finds a stack of contracts with monsters called the Book of Friends inherited from his grandmother, and together with Nyanko-sensei, a self-proclaimed bodyguard monster, "returns" the names of the monsters written in the Book of Friends.

It has been adapted into a TV anime series six times so far, with the first season airing from July to September 2008, and the sixth season, "Roku," airing from April to June 2017. The movie version, "Natsume's Book of Friends: The Movie - Ephemeral Bond," was released in 2018. A new anime, "Natsume's Book of Friends: The Stone-Raiser and the Mysterious Visitor," was released in theaters in 2021.

In episode 1, "The Fragments Are Grieving," one day, Natsume receives ashes with mysterious powers as a token of gratitude from a spirit whose name he has returned. Natsume and Nyanko-sensei use the ashes to make various items out of clay. However, the next day, strange things start to happen, and the small clay figurine of Nyanko-sensei that Natsume had made has disappeared... and so the story unfolds.
