It has been announced that the second season of the TV anime "Furieren's Funeral," based on the manga currently being serialized in "Weekly Shonen Sunday" (Shogakukan), will be produced. The first season of the TV anime depicted the "First Class Wizard Exam Arc," in which Furiren fights to obtain the qualifications of a first class wizard, which is necessary to reach "Aureole, the place where souls sleep," the destination of her journey. The second season will tell the story from chapter 61 of the original manga's volume 7, in which Furiren, her apprentice Fern who has obtained the qualifications of a first class wizard, and the warrior Stark set out on a journey from the land of Oisarst, the setting of the "First Class Wizard Exam Arc." Following the first season, the anime will be produced by Madhouse. Details such as the broadcast date will be announced in the future.

A teaser visual featuring Furiren's bag, Fern's staff, Stark's axe, and the shadows of the three people, hinting at the start of a new journey, was also released, along with a video announcing the second season, featuring Furiren's newly recorded voice saying, "Shall we continue our journey?".

Comments and illustrations were also released by original author Yamada Kanehito and illustrator Abe Tsukasa to celebrate the decision to make a second season. Yamada and Abe wrote, "The second season of the TV anime has been decided! We owe it all to everyone who supported us. We are eternally grateful to everyone involved in the anime who has made this wonderful anime. As a viewer, I look forward to Frieren's journey as she sets off again. Please continue to support 'Frieren'." Abe drew Frieren, Himmel, Heiter, and Eisen from the hero party.

The announcement was made at the "Special Screening of 'Frieren' to Commemorate the 1st Anniversary of the Anime Broadcast" event held at TOHO Cinemas Hibiya (Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo) on September 28, one year after the first broadcast of the TV anime. At the event, episodes one to four of the first season of the TV anime were screened, and voice actors including Tanezaki Atsumi, who plays Frieren, took to the stage.

"Funeral of Frieren" began serialization in April 2020 in "Weekly Shonen Sunday." Frieren, a magician in the hero's party that defeated the Demon King, is an elf and has a long lifespan. After experiencing the death of a companion, she sets out on a journey to "get to know people." The series was selected for the Manga Taisho 2021, the 25th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize Newcomer Award, the 69th (2023) Shogakukan Manga Award, and the 48th Kodansha Manga Award in the Boys' category. Thirteen volumes of the comic have been released, with a total circulation of over 22 million copies. The anime is directed by Keiichiro Saito, who has worked on "Bocchi the Rock!" and other works, and produced by Madhouse. Tanezaki will play the main character Frieren, and voice actors Kana Ichinose and Chiaki Kobayashi will also appear. The first season of the TV anime was broadcast on Nippon Television's anime slot "FRIDAY ANIME NIGHT (Fura-ani)" from September 2023 to March 2024. The first episode, "First 2-Hour Special: Departure Chapter," was also broadcast on Nippon Television's movie slot "Friday Road Show," which became a hot topic.
