The synopsis for the first episode (to be aired on October 16th) of the latest season of the popular detective drama "AIBOU Season 23" (TV Asahi, Wednesdays at 9pm) has been released.
In "AIBOU," Ukyo Sugishita (Yutaka Mizutani), a member of the Metropolitan Police Department's Special Task Force, uses his genius mind to solve mysteries and tackle a number of difficult cases with his partner. Since its launch in 2000, four partners have been created: Kameyama Kaoru (Yasuhito Terawaki), Kobe Takeru (Mitsuhiro Oikawa), Kai Toru (Hiroki Narimiya), and Kanjo Wataru (Takashi Sorimachi). In season 21, he reunited with his original partner Kaoru for the first time since season 7, and this will be the 10th season of his "golden duo" with Kaoru.
While Ukyo is working on compiling the "150 Year History of the Metropolitan Police Department" under orders from his superiors, a murder occurs in which former National Public Safety Commission Chairman and House of Representatives member Ashiya (Namiki Shiro). Ukyo and Kaoru immediately arrive on the scene and, while keeping an eye on the First Investigation Division's investigation, begin to move.
The incident sends shock waves through the political core. For Tonegawa (Denden), Secretary-General of the ruling party, nicknamed "Kingmaker," it comes as a bolt from the blue just as he is about to give up on Prime Minister Fujiwara (Shiba Toshio), whose approval ratings are sagging. Meanwhile, Fujiwara is unable to hide his shock at having his desperate plan of dissolving the Diet and calling a general election thwarted.
While following clues left at the scene, Ukyo and Kaoru come across an unexpected person. It is Takada Hajime (Kato Seishiro), whom Ukyo met through an incident and who helped him take a step towards a new life. Takada, who currently works as a police officer in the local police department, says he saw a suspicious person in the area and gave chase. Thoroughly involved in this investigation, Takada has a good relationship with his senior, Nishina (Uchino Kenta), who works at the same police box, and has become a fully-fledged police officer.
Giving new clues from Takada's information, the two decide to split up and investigate the case. However, the case then begins to take a strange turn. One after another, serious incidents occur that seem to mirror the emergencies of the time, such as the assassination of Home Minister Okubo Toshimichi, which occurred about 150 years ago in the early days of the police. Politicians, police, people involved in the incident... the intertwining intentions bring about an unexpected tragedy.
The first episode will be an extended special and will air from 9:00 pm to 10:09 pm on the 16th. The script for this episode is by Tokunaga Tomihiko and the director is Hashimoto Hajime.
