The eighth episode of the popular TBS Sunday drama "Reboot," starring Ryohei Suzuki, aired on March 15th (Sundays at 9 PM). The actions of Goroku, played by Yukiya Kitamura, drew heavy criticism on social media.
◇The following contains spoilers.
Goroku told Ichika (Toda) that he would also have Gido (Suzuki) take the blame for stealing (Chairman Ma's) 10 billion yen worth of goods. He revealed that he would repay the 10 billion yen to Chairman Ma with an interest loan, to which Ichika sharply pointed out, "What benefit would you gain from doing something like that?"
Goroku explained, "The election is coming up soon, isn't it? We need to give Shinkita Yaichi (played by Ichikawa Danjuro) a huge sum of money and ensure his party wins by a landslide. To do that, we need a large amount of cash. If we can get Shinkita Yaichi to become prime minister, it's worth taking the risk and paying 10 billion yen."
When pressed about whether Goroku had also orchestrated the 1 billion yen incident three years ago, Goroku replied without any remorse, "I believe it was during the Upper House elections at the time. Thanks to Natsumi taking the blame, we were able to give the Makita party a significant boost."
In that 1 billion yen "missing incident," Natsumi was suspected by Goroku of being the culprit and was forced to "reboot."
On social media, comments such as "I seriously hate Goroku!", "I absolutely hate Goroku," "Goroku is so awful it's off-putting," "Goroku is a villain through and through," and "The reason for the reboot was elections? What does he think of people's lives?" spread.
