The TV Asahi drama premium "Double Edge ~The Man Who Resurrected~," starring actor Yuji Oda, will air from 9pm on June 27th. Oda plays Kosuke Gunji, a former detective from the First Investigation Division who is now confined to a wheelchair, while Karin Ono plays Haru Akutsu, a financial investigator with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) who has difficulty interacting with people and who teams up with Karin Ono.
The daughter of a powerful politician is murdered, and her body is discovered on a riverbank. Her mouth is taped shut, and her white dress is stained bright red... The gruesome method of killing is eerily similar to that of Ryuichi Makaino (Takuma Otoo), a serial killer who was supposed to have died three years ago.
Forensic investigator Takeshi Nakatsugawa (Ken Mitsuishi) and others examined the suspect's hair sample and found it matched that of Makaino, which had been collected three years prior. Kokuryo Katsutoshi (Kenjiro Tsuda), the superintendent in charge of the investigation headquarters, concluded that Makaino was responsible for the crime and summoned Gunji back.
Gunji was the only detective who had contact with Makaino during the incident three years ago. He was known as the "ace of the First Investigation Division," and had by far the highest number of arrests and incidents. However, he was stabbed at the scene where he had contact with Makaino and was transferred to the local police station's community safety division. Now he is confined to a wheelchair.
Saeko Tomikata (Rio Asumi), the head of the First Investigation Division, is strongly opposed to bringing Gunji back, even though it is for Kokuryo's advancement. She treats Gunji coldly when he arrives at the First Investigation Division, but Gunji doesn't seem to mind... When Kokuryo tries to assign someone to support him so that he can go to the scene even in a wheelchair, Gunji asks if he can have Akutsu Karu (Karin Ono), a financial investigator from the Second Investigation Division whom he met by chance in town, as his support person.
However, Kokuryo refused. In fact, he determined that Karu had autism spectrum disorder and would have difficulty coping with anything outside of the established schedule. Gunji, who had seen through Karu's abilities and insight, refused to give up and spoke to Karu, saying:
"Didn't you become a police officer because it was the job that would allow you to help people the most among all the jobs you could do?" "If leaving your room door open all the time is a sign that you want to stay connected to the outside world, then let's investigate together."
Moved by Gunji's words, Karu finally decides to investigate with him. Gunji and Karu immediately begin searching the victim Yui's room and discover flashy clothes and a wig hidden behind a bookshelf. If Yui had a hidden side, wouldn't that be outside of Makaino's preferences, who only targeted innocent-looking women? While this question arises, Karu notices that the knot in the rope binding the victim was made by a right-handed person. Makaino was supposed to be left-handed...
Just then, another victim appears. This time too, there are inconsistencies with Makaino's criminal tendencies, and opinions are divided on whether it is "Makaino's crime" or "a copycat crime," when Gunji and Karu uncover a shocking truth.
