The car-loving comedy duo "Ogiyahagi" explores the "car history" of their guests in "Ogiyahagi's Car History: NO CAR, NO LIFE!" (BS Nippon Television, Saturdays at 9 PM). On the June 27th broadcast, actor Koji Utsumi will appear as a guest and the show will feature "Automobile Council," an event celebrating automotive culture.
The event, held at Makuhari Messe in April of this year, brought together over 120 iconic cars from different eras, ranging from heritage vehicles to the latest models from Japan and abroad.
At the Toyota Motor Corporation booth, the legendary sports car that Toyota first ever produced will be on display, and the reasons why it's called a "legendary" car will be explored.
At the Honda booth, Ogi and Yahagi reminisced about the "City Turbo II," the turbo model of the first-generation City that was born in 1983 and became a huge hit, nicknamed the "Tallboy," saying, "We used to drive these around a lot." When the new electric vehicle "Super-ONE," which inherits the DNA of the City Turbo II and was released this year, appeared, they were excited, exclaiming, "What is this?!" With its many attractive features, such as the best sound system made possible only by being an EV, Ken Yahagi couldn't help but blurt out his true feelings, "I want to drive this."
Upon seeing the Aston Martin Lagonda, which debuted in 1976, Yahagi exclaimed excitedly, "This is totally my kind of car!" Utsumi was also thrilled to see this incredibly rare classic car, of which only 105 were ever produced, and began snapping photos.
When the then state-of-the-art digital meter lit up, Mr. Utsumi exclaimed, "Wow! It's like the old Famicom!" and enjoyed the luxurious seats, which were recreated using the top-of-the-line cowhide brand "Connolly Leather." The Lagonda, which was built with the best of Aston Martin's technical expertise, also had an astonishing selling price back in 1989.
