It has been announced that "One Day Her Panties," by Kato Yobi, which won the Grand Prize at the 49th Creative Television Drama Awards co-sponsored by the Japan Broadcasting Writers Association and NHK, will be adapted into a drama and broadcast on NHK General on May 31st at 11 PM. Yuki Kura will play the protagonist, Namiki Sota, who is seen as an eccentric person by those around him and has difficulty getting along with society. Kura is also making headlines for his role as Kuroda Kanbei in the NHK Taiga drama "BROTHERS IN ARMS （Toyotomi Brothers!）", and "One Day Her Panties" will mark his first leading role on NHK.
The drama tells the story of a couple living their ordinary lives with a slightly humorous atmosphere. A major commotion that ensues from a trivial incident involving the wife's panties changes the relationship between the two. Mizuki Yamashita plays Yui, Sota's wife and an aspiring manga artist, and Shunsuke Kazama plays Hideki Shunsuke Kazama, the manga editor in charge of Yui's work.
The story begins with Sota, who is currently on leave from work and in charge of household chores. One windy day, while bringing in the laundry, he drops his wife Yui's panties into the river that flows in front of their house. He immediately chases after them but is unable to retrieve them, and Sota becomes obsessed with the panties, unable to get them out of his head.
That night, as the wind howled, Sota, unable to contain himself any longer, ran out of the house and into the river to retrieve the panties, causing a huge commotion. Yui, an aspiring manga artist, found the events of that night amusing and drew a manga about it. This manga prompted Sota to take a drastic action... and the story unfolds from there.
Kura commented, "The moment I heard the title, I remember being excited and thinking, 'What is that?!' When I actually read the script, I found that the heartwarming daily life and subtle emotions of the married couple were delicately depicted, and there were also comical and unique lines scattered throughout, so I was really looking forward to filming. I put my heart into playing Sota, cherishing his kindness and straightforwardness. I think it's a heartwarming drama that will make you want to be a little kinder to others after watching it. I would be happy if you would warmly watch over Yui and Sota."
