The variety show "Kaiun! Nandemo Kanteidan" (TV Tokyo, Tuesdays at 8:54 PM), hosted by talent Koji Imada, freelance announcer Akira Fukuzawa, and former Sakurazaka46 member Yuka Sugai, featured a historically rare and highly valuable item belonging to a soccer legend as a "treasure" in its May 5th broadcast.
The treasures include a number of rare items associated with "the King of Football," Pelé. The cleats are the ones Pelé wore at the 1970 Mexico World Cup. The ribbon and patch were presented by the Brazilian government when Brazil won the 1958 Sweden World Cup. The shield was presented by the Brazilian Football Confederation to Pelé in recognition of his three World Cup victories.
The owner valued the item at 2 million yen, but the appraisal result was a shocking 7.5 million yen. Soccer goods appraiser Kazumi Yamazaki commented, "This is an incredibly valuable treasure in the history of soccer." He continued, "The shoes were valued at 3 million yen. Unfortunately, he didn't wear them in the World Cup. However, there's no doubt he used them around 1970."
When Imada asked, "What if these were the spikes he wore when he won the championship in 1970?", Yamazaki replied, "I think the appraisal value would be an order of magnitude different."
