It has been announced that a brand new anime series, "THE ONE PIECE," based on Eiichiro Oda's popular manga "ONE PIECE," will be streamed worldwide on Netflix starting in February 2027. WIT STUDIO, known for works such as "SPY×FAMILY" and "Attack on Titan," will produce the series, which will re-animate the story from the first chapter of the original manga's East Blue arc with completely new animation.
Season 1 will cover 50 chapters of the original manga, depicting the story leading up to Luffy's meeting with Sanji, the sous chef of the sea restaurant Baratie. The total running time is approximately 300 minutes, and all 7 episodes will be streamed at once. Masashi Koizuka is directing, Takashi Kishimoto is in charge of series composition, and Kyoji Asano and Takatoshi Honda are in charge of character design and chief animation direction.
New concept art has also been released depicting a scene from Foosha Village, where the protagonist Monkey D. Luffy spent his childhood. It shows Luffy smiling innocently at the PARTYS BAR, surrounded by pirates anchored in the village: Shanks, the captain of the Red-Haired Pirates, his first mate Ben Beckman, and the bar owner Makino.
"ONE PIECE" is a TV anime series produced by Toei Animation that is currently airing. "THE ONE PIECE" is a separate project from the TV anime series, pushing the boundaries of visual expression that is only possible now, and depicting Luffy's adventures with a nostalgic yet fresh sense of realism.
"ONE PIECE" depicts the adventures of Luffy, a young man wearing a straw hat whose limbs can stretch like rubber, as he sails the high seas with his crew in pursuit of becoming the Pirate King. The manga began serialization in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha) in 1997. In March of this year, the total worldwide circulation of the comic books surpassed 600 million copies. The Toei Animation-produced television anime series began airing in 1999.
