The fourth episode of the TBS Sunday drama "GIFT," starring actor Shinichi Tsutsumi, aired on May 3rd. A scene in which Keijiro Asatani, played by Kyohei Honda, prostrates himself, caused a stir on social media.
◇The following contains spoilers.
When Keijiro discovers a crack in his rugby wheelchair, he goes with Hino (Michiko Kichise) and Hitoka (Kasumi Arimura) to wheelchair craftsman Takamizu (Hiromasa Taguchi) to request repairs. However, Keijiro says, "A rugby wheelchair is nothing more than a tool to score points," which enrages Takamizu, who retorts, "Never show your face to me again!"
Later, Keijiro visited Takamizu alone. He got out of his wheelchair, crawled to Takamizu's side, and bowed his head, saying, "Please, come and watch our practice." He pleaded, "The Bulls are different now, I'm sure. They're not the same as when you knew them," but Takamizu didn't accept it, saying that things couldn't change overnight.
"That's right. I can't change. But I'm trying to change! Please, just look at me and see that. I'm begging you," Keijiro said, bowing his head to Takamizu once again.
Social media was buzzing with comments like, "Honda Kyoya in GIFT is amazing," "Keijiro is so cool!", "This episode really showed how serious Keijiro is about wanting to play wheelchair rugby," "He came alone to apologize but didn't compromise his beliefs and came to ask for help! What a man!", and "The Sunday drama signature dogeza (bowing deeply)."
The drama follows Wu Tetsuya, a genius astrophysicist played by Tsutsumi, as he solves difficult problems facing the underdog team "Blaze Bulls" from his unique perspective. It's a story of redemption where the team, friends, and family reconnect.
