A character relationship chart has been released for "Black Prison" (directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa, opening June 19), a film adaptation of Masahiro Motoki Honobu Yonezawa's masterpiece mystery starring actor Masahiro Motoki. The chart allows viewers to see at a glance the complex relationships between the more than 20 characters, including Murashige Araki, played by Motoki.
The original novel (Kadokawa Bunko/KADOKAWA) was published in 2021 and is a popular work that has won numerous awards, including the 166th Naoki Prize and the 12th Yamada Futaro Prize. Araki Murashige (played by Motoki), rebelling against Oda Nobunaga's methods, decides to hold out in his castle, but a boy is murdered inside the castle, and then a series of strange incidents occur. The suspects are one of his retainers or family members who are inside the castle, which has become a locked room... As everyone becomes suspicious of each other, Murashige tries to solve the case together with Kuroda Kanbei (played by Masaki Suda), a dangerous genius strategist imprisoned in jail... This is a psychological mystery set in the Sengoku period.
In addition, new character cuts were released, including a scene where Murashige (Motoki), who visits the dungeon to uncover the truth, and Kanbei (Suda), who is chained up, gaze at each other, as well as a video titled "Explanatory video for the 'Five Mysteries of the Black Prison Castle'."
The video meaningfully presents the five mysteries hidden within the story, beginning with "The first mystery: The boy's locked-room murder," followed by "The second mystery: The transformed head of the enemy general," "The third mystery: The murdered monk," "The fourth mystery: The vanished Murashige's prized possession," and "The fifth mystery: The existence of a traitor operating in the shadows."
