The "Bayside Shakedown" series, since its television drama debut in 1997, has set itself apart from previous police dramas by depicting the hierarchical structure, power dynamics, and human relationships within the police force, creating a social phenomenon. The following year, in 1998, the film "Bayside Shakedown THE MOVIE" was released and became a massive hit, grossing over 10 billion yen. The second film in the series, "Bayside Shakedown THE MOVIE 2: Blockade the Rainbow Bridge!", released in 2003, grossed 17.35 billion yen and reigned as the top-grossing live-action Japanese film for approximately 22 years until it was surpassed by the film "National Treasure" last November.
This video features the series' familiar theme song, "Rhythm And Police," and plays back memorable scenes from the 1997 TV drama series, including lines like, "Are there such things as big or small cases?", "We can't close off the Rainbow Bridge!!", and "The crime isn't happening in the conference room, it's happening on the scene!"
Next, the words "Shunsaku Aoshima is still working as a police officer" appear, and the current Aoshima, clad in his familiar "Aoshima coat," is shown. Aoshima, exuding the style and presence etched by his many years as a detective, is shown reading a note saying, "I'm going to blow up the city...!?", running while breathing heavily, and speeding along on an electric scooter.
