On March 23rd at 7:30 PM, NHK E-TV's program "Kimura Tae's, It's a Little Late Now, But..." will air an episode titled "The Nightingale of the Meiji Era ~ The Kaze,Kaoru Wind of Chika Ozeki~". The program will feature Chika Ozeki, the inspiration for the Asadora drama series "The Kaze,Kaoru," which starts on the 30th. The program will explore what her arduous journey as a pioneer nurse in the Meiji era has to say to us today.
Kazu Ozeki divorced, leaving behind two children. At the age of 28, she began studying seriously at a newly established Christian nursing school and became a nurse.
She cherished the spirit of "compassion and service," and was later called the "Nightingale of the Meiji era." However, at the First Imperial University Hospital, where she first worked, her demands for improvements to the working environment and training system for nurses were perceived as disruptive, and she was fired. There, she found herself facing chronic staff shortages and harsh working conditions, similar to those in the nursing field today.
Tetsuya Ikeda and Konatsu Kato will also appear on the program.
