A preview screening of the new TV anime "Ascendance of a Bookworm: The Lord's Shosetsuka ni Naro Daughter," based on the popular light novel "Ascendance of a Bookworm: I'll Do Anything to Become a Librarian," was held at Shinjuku Piccadilly (Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo) on March 8th, with appearances by Yuka Iguchi, who plays Rozemyne, Show Hayami, who plays Ferdinand, and Kazuhiko Inoue, who plays Sylvester. The new TV anime, the first in about four years, is also attracting attention for its nationwide broadcast on Yomiuri TV and Nippon TV every Saturday at 5:30 PM starting April 4th. Iguchi expressed her excitement, saying, "I'm really looking forward to it! It will be broadcast on Saturday evenings, so more people can watch it. It can be enjoyed by parents and children, or even by three generations." She also revealed her ambitions, saying, "It would be fun if it was made into a movie!"
Regarding her role as Rosemyne, Iguchi commented, "She takes on various challenges through trial and error without giving up. I am approaching the recording with the intention of focusing on her straightforwardness in the performance. Since the role is often divided into monologue, narration, and lines, I am conscious of how to change the nuances."
Hayami commented on Ferdinand's change, saying, "By meeting Myne, he becomes more human. His 4H pencil has gone down to 2H. He's still quite stiff." Inoue said about Sylvester, "Unlike Myne and Ferdinand, he only had a few scenes at first, so I wondered if he was going to be a regular, but his appearances have increased. Hayami is more composed, so I was a little worried about what position he should play, but he has settled down."
At the screening, the original author Miya Kazuki also performed a reading of the episode "By the Baptism Ceremony," which she wrote. The second half of the show featured a lot of dialogue between Ferdinand and Sylvester, and Iguchi commented with delight, "I never thought my ears would be so happy!"
The series is a light novel written by Miya Kazuki and illustrated by Yu Shiina. It follows Urano Motosu, a girl living in modern-day Japan, who dies on the day she secures her dream job at a library. She regains consciousness as Myne, a young girl in another world ruled by nobles with magical powers, and struggles to obtain a book. The series has sold over 13 million copies. The first season of the anime aired from October to December 2019, the second from April to June 2020, and the third from April to June 2022.
In "Ascendance of a Bookworm: The Lord's Adopted Daughter," Myne chooses to live as the lord's adopted daughter, Rozemyne, in order to protect her family and friends in the downtown area. Produced by WIT STUDIO, the studio behind "SPY x FAMILY" and "Attack on Titan Season 3," the series will be broadcast over two consecutive seasons.
