Comedian Hanawa appeared on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi) on February 18th. He spoke about his feelings towards his first grandchild and the latest developments in his three sons.
His eldest son was 25, his second son 21, and his third son 15. His eldest son got married at 23. When he asked his eldest son if it was a little early, he replied, "I got married at 23 too." His eldest son's wife is a wonderful woman, and he says, "It may seem early to get married at 23, but now I think it was a good thing."
Two years ago, her grandchild was born. "When I had my own child, I felt a sense of responsibility, and I was worried about how I was going to raise this child," she said, but when it comes to her grandchild, she seems to have a bit more leeway, saying, "I'd heard about it, but I really understand why people would put their children in their eyes. They're so cute," she said, narrowing her eyes.
He is like a doting grandpa, saying, "My grandson is two years old now, and I fight over him with my wife. I want to be liked, so I buy him lots of toys," and he says that the enka song "Grandson" sung by Oizumi Itsuro "resonates with me so much," and that he listens to it repeatedly in the car. When "Grandson" was released, he wasn't that moved, but "it resonates with me now. It warms my heart, and every time I hear that song, I almost cry."
The second son had been working hard at judo for a long time, but has now retired. He has developed a love for art, and is now drawing and also playing music. "He seems to be interested in the arts, so he has been studying and doing it for a long time," she said. The third son has been devoted to judo. He will soon graduate from junior high school. "He is currently studying hard for the entrance exams, aiming to get into a prestigious high school with a strong judo program," she said, revealing his current situation.
