Stills of a total of 22 characters have been released for "Golden Kamuy: Attack on Abashiri Prison" (directed by Katagiri Kenji, to be released on March 13th), the second film in the "Golden Kamuy" series, a live-action adaptation of Satoru Noda's popular manga starring actor Kento Yamazaki.
"Golden Kamuy" is based on the manga of the same name by Satoru Noda, which has sold over 30 million copies. Set in Hokkaido at the end of the Meiji era, the story depicts a survival battle in the wilderness, with a cast of eccentric characters fighting for the return of a soldier, Saichi Sugimoto, and Anna Yamada playing the Ainu girl Asirpa. The live-action film, released in January 2024, was a hit, grossing over 3 billion yen, and a sequel, "Serial Drama W Golden Kamuy: The Battle for the Hokkaido Tattooed Prisoner," began airing on WOWOW in October of the same year.
The setting for this episode of "Golden Kamuy: Attack on Abashiri Prison" is Abashiri Prison, where "Nopperabo," the man who knows all the mysteries, is incarcerated. A three-way battle unfolds between Sugimoto and his group, the Shinsengumi's "Demon Vice-Commander" Toshizo Hijikata's faction (played by Hiroshi Tachi), and the 7th Division led by Lieutenant Tsurumi (played by Hiroshi Tamaki).
The stills were taken by photographer Osamu Kikuchi, who has also worked on the "Kingdom" and "Rurouni Kenshin" series. Kikuchi, who has an unusual background as a war photographer, captured a total of 22 unique characters, including Saichi Sugimoto (Yamazaki) and Asirpa (Yamada).
Furthermore, it has been revealed that the "Golden Kamuy Movie: Attack on Abashiri Prison Visual Book," which will delve into the appeal of "Attack on Abashiri Prison" and will include over 130 stills, including rare stills taken by Kikuchi while closely following the set, as well as interviews and Q&As with the 14 cast members who give passionate performances, will be released on March 13th, the same day as the film's release. The B5 size, 112 pages, will cost 2,420 yen.
