The drama "LORD OF THE FLIES," based on the masterpiece "Lord of the Flies" by Nobel Prize-winning author William Golding, will be exclusively streamed on the video streaming service "U-NEXT" from February 20th. The cast for the Japanese dubbed version has been announced, and it has been revealed that a stellar cast of voice actors including Kana Hanazawa, Miyuki Sawashiro, Mutsumi Tamura, and Ayane Sakura will appear.
"Lord of the Flies" is a classic that has been read all over the world since its publication in 1954. After a plane crashes and a group of boys find themselves stranded on a deserted island, they work together to survive, but tensions gradually rise... "Lord of the Flies" is a co-production between the British public broadcaster BBC and Australia's Stan, and is directed by Mark Munden, known for "Kingdom Soldiers," and written by Jack Thorne, known for "Adolescence." While "Lord of the Flies" has been made into a film before, this is the first time it has been adapted into a television drama series.
The drama consists of four episodes, each told from the perspective of a different boy: Piggy, Jack, Simon, or Ralph.
Hanazawa, who plays Piggy (David McKenna), a boy with calm judgment, high intelligence, and logical opinions who supports the group, commented, "I know the boys played by the other three actors are wonderful, so while I was happy, I was also worried that I might lose my balance. From my first impression, I couldn't help but find Piggy endearing, as he combines cuteness with an uncle-like quality."
Tamura, who plays Jack (Rocks Pratt), a boy who comes to the island as the leader of the choir, said, "I was honored to be included in such a distinguished cast. At first glance, Jack seems very charismatic, both inside and out, but I felt that he is actually a very weak boy. He behaves like a tyrant in front of everyone, but he also has many childlike and cute sides to him."
Sakura, who plays the delicate, quiet, and highly sensitive boy Simon (Ike Talbot), said, "I am very honored to have the opportunity to act among such an esteemed cast of actors. Simon remains a relatively rational person until the end, and I imagine he harbors painful, human feelings in certain areas. I wanted to play the role without losing my experience just because he is a boy."
Sawashiro, who plays Ralph (Winston Sawyers), the first boy to be chosen as leader among the boys washed up on the island, commented, "There was the option of dubbing with someone of the same gender who was close in age to the original cast, but I felt a sense of responsibility when I heard that they would entrust the role to a female voice actor. I tried to make sure that the dubbed version conveyed the character's sincerity, but not necessarily respectability, appropriate for his age."
