It has been announced that tuki., a female high school student singer-songwriter, will be performing the opening theme "Zero" for the TV anime "Snowball Earth," which is based on the manga by Tsujitsugu Yuichiro that is currently being serialized in "Monthly! Spirits" (Shogakukan). This will be the first time that tuki., who also made headlines for appearing on the Red and White Song Battle, will be performing a theme song for a TV anime.
Tuki. commented, "I've been writing songs inspired by my favorite manga and anime, so I'm really happy to have been given the opportunity to write the theme song. I've dedicated the song "Zero" to the story of "Snowball Earth," which begins in despair at absolute zero. It's a song that makes you feel just a little more invincible when you listen to it. I can't wait for it to reach everyone!"
A special illustration of "Snowball Earth" and tuki., drawn by the original author, Yuichiro Tsujitsugu, was also released. The illustration shows the main character, Tetsuo, and his robot partner, Yukio, looking up at tuki. Tsujitsugu commented, "I never expected that tuki. would be in charge of the theme song, so I am very happy and surprised. What's more, it's their first theme song for an anime, so I'm very honored. The song I listened to is a gentle yet passionate tune that touches the hearts of both listeners and Snowball Earth. It's truly wonderful! Snowball Earth is the story of a boy who journeys through a frozen world in search of friends. If this song reaches the ears of the main character, Tetsuo, I feel it will inspire him and give him the strength to start walking again, even when he feels like giving up."
The series is a sci-fi, monster, and robot action story set on Snowball Earth, an Earth covered in snow and ice. The comic has sold over 700,000 copies. All episodes will be available for free streaming on Bikcomi, Manga One, and Sunday Webry from February 11th to 13th.
The anime will be directed by Munehisa Sakai and produced by Studio KAI. It will star Takuto Yoshinaga as Yabusame Tetsuo, Daisuke Hirakawa as Yukio, Ami Koshimizu as Nogi Ao, and Yoshi Tamura as Takimura Hagione. It will air every Friday at 11:30 pm on Nippon Television's anime slot "FRIDAY ANIME NIGHT (Fura-Ani)" from April 3rd.
