It has been announced that the TV anime "Yomi no Tsugai," based on the latest work by Arakawa Hiromu, known for the popular manga "Fullmetal Alchemist," will be broadcast on TOKYO MX, BS11, Gunma TV, Tochigi TV, and other stations from 11:30 PM on April 4th. It will be broadcast over two consecutive seasons. Additional main cast members have also been announced, including Koyama Rikiya as the right partner of protagonist Yuru, Honda Takako as the left, Shimabukuro Miyuri as Hana, a woman living in the underworld who teams up with Dela, and Suwabe Junichi as Jin, a man pursuing Yuru.
It was also announced that singer-songwriter Vaundy will be writing the lyrics and composing the opening theme (OP) and ending theme (ED) for the first season. The OP, "Tobu Toki," will be sung by Vaundy, and the ED, "Tobyouyo," will be sung by singer yama. The main PV was released on YouTube, showcasing parts of the OP and ED. The PV depicts the fast-paced battle action of the paired characters, and also shows the characters making full use of their abilities. A key visual was also released, depicting Yuru and Asa surrounded by their paired characters.
Koyama, who plays the right-hand man, commented, "'Yo' - When you're called, you jump out and tada! Gahaha! Leave it to me! 'Mi' - Look up ♪ At your mate in the underworld ♪ I'll pray for your humble happiness! 'No' - Get on board! Come on! Haa-haa! Let's be grateful that it's been made into an anime! 'Tsu' - It's punishment on behalf of the moon! Gahaha! So leave it to me! 'Ga' - I'm not a kid's messenger! Now that you've woken up, I'll protect you with all my might, baby! 'I' - Celebrate! The beginning of this anime! I am the master of time that transcends time and space! Leave it all to me!!"
Honda, who plays Hidari, said, "When I was given the role, I felt like Hidari's face was shiny and clear and my eyes were shining with stars. It's difficult to imagine life from ancient times, but I hope I can express well the feelings I have for Yuru and Asa, the children of destiny who have been watching over Hidari, who has been freed for the first time in hundreds of years. I hope everyone will look forward to the anime 'Yomi no Tsugai'."
Shimabukuro, who plays Hana, commented, "Just typing this makes me tremble with nervousness, but at the same time, I feel a sense of determination. It's because of the incredible number of people who have worked on this production that I feel this way. I will cherish the connection I've been given with Hana-chan and the joy of being involved in this production, and do my best to be powerful in front of the microphone! Suwabe, who plays Jin, said, "I will be playing the role of Jin, the 'glasses frame' in 'Twins of Yomi.' He is always well-dressed and speaks politely. He is a gentleman, but has a mean look in his eyes. The role he plays in the Kagemori family is... I will do my best to portray Jin's charm well in the anime. This work has many charms, but it cannot be discussed without mentioning the pairs, who come in all different shapes and abilities. Jin's partners are the anglerfish-like 'Ai-chan' and 'Makoto-kun.' Vaundy said, "This time, I wrote two new songs that form a pair: the opening song, 'Tobu Toki', and the ending song, 'Tobubouyo', sung by yama. Both songs are based on the big theme of 'departure' and depict the feelings of the two main characters. They are more conceptual than usual, so please feel free to interpret them however you like. I am itching to see the anime soon."
Yama commented, "Perhaps he had been searching for a reason not to fly all this time. I was driven by the emotion of thinking of someone important, like a shared blood, and calling out to each other, 'Let's fly,' a feeling that combines childishness with a strong, dignified spirit. Once he takes flight, it doesn't matter if a dreadful reality or the risk of falling awaits. He just aims for the wide open sky. I sang this song with kindness, as if it were taking off with all its might. This is the second time Vaundy has written a song for me, and once again he has given me new realizations. "Yomi no Tsugai" is the story of Yuru and Asa, who were born as "twins separated by day and night." It has been serialized in "Monthly Shonen Gangan" (Square Enix) since December 2021, and the total number of copies of the comic series has exceeded 5 million.
The TV anime will be produced by Square Enix, Aniplex, and Bones, the same companies that produced the "Fullmetal Alchemist" anime series, which aired and was released from 2003 to 2011. It will be directed by Ando Masahiro, who has worked on "Stranger: Mukouhatan" and "Zetsuen no Tempest," among others, with character design by Arai Nobuhiro, who has worked on "Bungo Stray Dogs," series composition by Takagi Noboru, who has worked on "Durarara!!" and "Golden Kamuy," and music by Suehiro Kenichiro, who has worked on "Re:ZERO − Starting Life in Another World."
Kensho Ono will play the main character Yuru, while Yume Miyamoto will play Asa, Yuichi Nakamura will play Della, and Misaki Kuno will play Gabu-chan.
