It has been announced that the Viennese musical "Rudolf," composed by Frank Wildhorn, will be broadcast and streamed exclusively on WOWOW.
Set in Vienna at the end of the 19th century, the show is based on Frederick Morton's novel "Rudolf: The Last Kiss," which depicts the mysterious death of Rudolf, the son of Empress Elisabeth and Crown Prince of Austria, and his tragic love affair with his young lover, Marie. The Vienna version being broadcast this time was directed by David Leveaux, and starred Drew Sarich as Rudolf and Lisa Antoni as Marie. It was first performed at the Raimund Theater in Vienna in June 2009.
The Vienna version of the musical "Rudolf" will be broadcast on WOWOW from 7:30 pm on March 28th.
◇Story
Rudolf (Drew Saric), Crown Prince of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, appeals to his father, Emperor Franz Joseph (Klaus Damm), to listen to the voices of his people who demand freedom and equality. However, the Emperor seeks to maintain the outdated imperial system, and Prime Minister Taaffe (Uwe Kröger) refuses to listen to Rudolf's opinions. His political and ideological conflict with his father deepens day by day, and his relationship with his wife Stephanie (Wiecke van Trengen) also becomes cold. Rudolf lives in pain and loneliness.
One day, Rudolf meets Marie Vetsera (Lisa Antoni), the daughter of a baron, at a ball. The two share a strange feeling as if they have known each other for a long time, and are instantly drawn to each other. Rudolf, who is torn between his political ideals and his position as crown prince, has only Marie as his refuge. However, their forbidden relationship soon becomes known to those around them...
