The popular NHK variety show "Bura Tamori" (General), in which TV personality Tamori visits various towns, will air a segment titled "Tokyo's Akabane: How did Akabane become the town of Senbero, a huge hit in Tokyo?" from 7:30 pm on January 31st. The segment explores the origins of Akabane, Tokyo, a town of "senbero," where you can get drunk for just 1,000 yen, and its secrets.
Akabane, which has excellent access to central Tokyo, just 15 minutes by train from Shinjuku, is also extremely popular as a "senbero" (cheap drinking) town. How did Akabane develop? This is the site of a castle from the Warring States period, and we take a look at the completely different topography on the east and west sides of the town. We also discover the remains of railway tracks that tell the story of how the railway has greatly changed Akabane.
Furthermore, Tamori was very excited when he entered the nostalgic Showa-era housing complex "Star House." The shopping street that was established in the hope of rebuilding from the ruins of the fire has led to the bustle of today...
