Entertainer Kazuki Kosaka appeared with Tsutomu Sekine on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi), which aired on January 30th. They talked about their work as hosts of the daytime show, which they have held for over 31 years.
Kosaka was approached to host a program that aired after "Waratte Iitomo!", but at the time he thought it was a prank. Because a large number of reporters had come to the production announcement for the program, he thought it was too elaborate for a prank and kept talking. Eventually, he thought it was too long and wanted them to hurry up and tell him it was a prank, and then he heard the announcement, "It's a new program starting in October, so please promote it," and he revealed, "I thought it was true and was shocked."
The show didn't go well at first. One day, as they were trying different things, Sekine relayed a message from Masaaki Sakai: "Why is he talking all by himself?" I immediately remembered that Kinichi Hagimoto had once looked me in the eye and told me, "You'll never get a solo role. You'll do all the talking by yourself." I thought I was preparing by researching the people I was meeting. I also remembered something that actor Shintaro Katsu had taught me: "A bad actor is one who only focuses on creating their own character and doesn't listen to what the other person is saying."
The next day, when he spoke on the show, the guests were saying some interesting things. "I'm the son of a chef, so I thought all I had to do was arrange the food and serve it to the customers, and gradually people started saying it was interesting," he recalled.
