The second episode of the TBS Sunday Theatre drama "Reboot" (Sunday 9:00 PM), starring Suzuki Ryohei, aired on January 25th. Yoda Yuki, a former member of Nogizaka46, appeared as Ichika's (Toda Erika) younger sister, Ayaka. There was speculation on social media that Hayase's wife, Natsumi (Yamaguchi Sayaka), was being rebooted as Ichika, but viewers were confused, with one saying, "I thought Natsumi was Ichika, but now that her sister is here, it's getting confusing."
◇The following contains spoilers
Hayase (Suzuki), disguised as Gido, tails Ichika and discovers that she is visiting Ayaka, who has been hospitalized for a long time with the incurable disease "pulmonary arterial hypertension." Just as Ayaka is left alone, her condition suddenly worsens. Hayase is the first to notice and calls for help, saving Ichika from harm.
When Ayaka woke up and saw Hayase's face, she said happily, "Could it be Gido-san? You're dating my sister, right? I'm so glad to finally meet you." Ayaka told Ichika that she only appears strong-willed, but is actually a weak person, and asked Hayase, "Please help her."
Ichika tells Hayase that the only way to cure Ayaka's illness is through a double lung transplant, and that she is on a waiting list for a transplant. She reveals that the only way to get a transplant is in the United States, but it is expensive, and confides, "I'll do anything to save my sister."
On social media, comments such as, "If it's a reboot, why would he want to help his sister so much even though she's a stranger, so I guess it's not the same after all?", "Even if it's a reboot, would he be that attached to a sister he's not related to by blood?", "If Ichika is a rebooted Natsumi, then what about Ichika's sister who's in the hospital?", "The little sister seems real, so Ichika hasn't been rebooted after all...?", "Natsumi has been rebooted into Ichika, so it seems like the little sister has somehow realised that her sister is different", and "I'm curious about where Ichika's little sister is on the relationship chart." were widespread.
The drama is a suspense story about Hayase Riku, who is framed for the murder of his wife, abandoning his family and past to reboot himself as a corrupt detective, Gido, and pursue the real culprit. The script is written by Tsutomu Kuroiwa, who has worked on many hit Sunday Theatre dramas such as "Grand Maison Tokyo," "TOKYO MER: Running Emergency Room," and "My Family."
