It has been announced that a new anime series, "Dragon Ball Super: Galactic Patrol," based on the popular manga "Dragon Ball" by the late Akira Toriyama, will be produced. The announcement was made on January 25th at the "Dragon Ball Genkida Matsuri" event, which commemorates the 40th anniversary of "Dragon Ball," held at Makuhari Messe (Mihama Ward, Chiba City).
Appearing at the event were Masako Nozawa, who voices Son Goku, and Akio Ino, executive producer of the "Dragon Ball" series. The story follows the Universe Survival Arc of "Dragon Ball Super," which aired from 2015 to 2018, and has also been adapted into a manga titled the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc. Son Goku and Vegeta, along with the Galactic Patrol, who protect peace in the galaxy, engage in a fierce battle against a new and powerful enemy, Moro the Planet-Eater.
A visual depicting Son Goku and Vegeta has been released. Ino explained about the Son Goku and Vegeta depicted in the visual, "They have the Galactic Patrol mark designed on their chests. The two will be active as Galactic Patrol members." He added, "We are creating the video with the highest quality."
The original Dragon Ball manga was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha) from 1984 to 1995, and the TV anime adaptation began in 1986. The total number of copies of the comics published worldwide exceeds 260 million.
In recent years, the Dragon Ball Super series, originally conceived by Toriyama, aired from 2015 to 2018, followed by the animated feature films Dragon Ball Super: Broly in 2018 and Dragon Ball Super: Super Heroes in 2022, both of which were hits, and the series has continued to be loved around the world for over 40 years. The all-new TV anime series Dragon Ball DAIMA, which aired from October 2024 to February 2025, also attracted a lot of attention.
