The original anime "Super Kaguyahime!", the first feature-length directorial work by Seigo Yamashita, who has worked on the opening videos for popular series such as the first season of the TV anime "Jujutsu Kaisen" and "Chainsaw Man," began streaming on Netflix on January 22nd. It has been revealed that the ending theme for the film will be a new arrangement of the rock band BUMP OF CHICKEN's classic song "ray," called "ray Super Kaguyahime! Version." Released in 2014, "ray" caused a big stir as BUMP OF CHICKEN's first featured artist, Hatsune Miku, and the new arrangement for "ray Super Kaguyahime! Version" was created by TAKU INOUE.
The work is a "music anime" with a story based on the classic "The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter," and is also attracting attention for the music provided by a number of renowned Vocaloid producers. BUMP OF CHICKEN commented, "We are honored that our song "ray" has been used in such a wonderful work. Thank you so much for treating this song with such care. The song was released in 2014, but TAKU INOUE's arrangement and Kaguya and Yachiyo's performance have brought out a new charm that even we hadn't seen before. It fits the worldview of the movie so well that it really moved us. We would also like to perform a live performance with Tsukuyomi, so please give us a Smacon!"
TAKU INOUE said, "Every few years, I get an arranging job where the original is so good that there's absolutely nothing I can do to change it... and ray was a prime example of that. In fact, it might have been the best I've ever done. Still, when I read the script, I felt a strong desire to help recreate the excitement I felt when I first heard ray, through Kaguya and Yachiyo's singing voices, and ultimately the story of 'Super Kaguyahime!', so I decided to give it a try. As a result, I spent a few months feeling sick, but I was really happy to have been able to work so closely with this song that I love. I hope everyone enjoys it!"
It was also announced that "Melt CPK! Remix" will be played as a "special track" in the work. "Melt" is a smash hit song that has been loved by Vocaloid fans all over the world since it was released by ryo of the creator group "supercell" in 2007, and "Melt CPK! Remix" is a new remix by ryo himself and sung by Kaguya.
Ryo also worked on "World is Mine CPK! Remix," which became a hot topic when the teaser trailer was released, as well as the original main theme song "Ex-Otogibanashi." Regarding "Melt CPK! Remix," he said, "I was given the opportunity to remix Melt once again. Initially, I was asked to have Natsuyoshi (Yuko), who voices Kaguya, do the vocals, so I searched for a sound that would suit her voice. After that, I created a music video for the Hatsune Miku version, and also had Yanagi Nagi participate in the CD version, so we have three different remixes. I hope everyone enjoys listening to it."
It was also announced that the original music videos for the special track "Melt CPK! Remix," the in-movie song "World is Mine CPK! Remix," and the ending theme "ray Super Kaguyahime! Version" will be released on YouTube. "Melt CPK! Remix," which will be released at 9 PM on January 22nd, is a special version sung by Hatsune Miku, and in the video, Hatsune Miku and Kaguya perform a dream collaboration.
"World is Mine CPK! Remix," which will be released on January 23rd at 9 PM, is said to be a respectful finish that includes scenes reminiscent of the original. "Ray Super Kaguyahime! Version," which will be released on January 31st at 9 PM, is a special edition directed by Director Yamashita himself, featuring completely new footage that depicts the behind-the-scenes and aftermath of the story that was not shown in the main film.
The story is about the bond between girls connected by song. One day, 17-year-old high school student Ayaka Sakayori, who leads an incredibly busy life juggling part-time work and studies, meets Kaguya, who appears from inside a gaming utility pole shining in seven colors.
Studio Colorido, known for "Penguin Highway," and Studio Chromat, led by director Yamashita, are teaming up to produce the anime. A stellar cast of vocaloid producers will provide the music, including ryo from "supercell," kz from "livetune," 40mP, HoneyWorks, Aqu3ra, and yuigot. The main cast includes Natsuyoshi as Kaguya, Nagase Anna as Sakyo Saiba, and Saori Hayami as Tsukimi Yachiyo.
