NHK's documentary program "Document 72 Hours" (General) will air "A Small Shop on Tsushima Island, Nagasaki" from 10 pm on January 16th. Looking at the daily life of the island through a small shop on Tsushima, the "border island" between Japan and Korea...
Tsushima, Nagasaki Prefecture, is an island located between Japan and Korea. There is a small shop here that supports the lives of local people. It mainly sells vegetables and fruits, as well as groceries and everyday items.
A woman comes to buy Tsushima's newly harvested rice to send to her son who lives in Tokyo, and a man comes to buy grapes as a reward for his daughter who worked hard at her club activities. They also make deliveries, going to all sorts of places, including private homes and restaurants, as well as Self-Defense Force bases, nursing homes, and school lunch centers. This is the story of a three-day trip that gives a glimpse into the real life of the island.
This documentary program focuses on a single location each time, observing the various human dramas that occur there over a period of 72 hours. It listens to the stories of people who meet by chance, capturing the current era.
