It has been announced that a completely new mini-manga will be distributed as the first giveaway to moviegoers for the re-edited theatrical version of the short anime "Galaxy Express Milky Subway," "Galaxy Express Milky Subway Local Train to the Theater," starting from February 6th, the first day of its release. The original illustrations are by Don Kono, who is also working on the manga adaptation of the series, and depict new episodes for characters such as Chiharu and Makina. There will be six types in total, distributed at random.
It was also announced that a stage greeting to commemorate the release will be held at TOHO Cinemas Hibiya (Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo) on February 7th. Appearing on stage will be Momoka Terasawa ( Chiharu), Mikako Komatsu(Ryoko), Kensho Ono(Asami), Robert Waterman (Haga), and director Yohei Kameyama.
"Galaxy Express Milky☆Subway" is a sequel to "Milky☆Highway," a short 3D animation released on YouTube in 2022 as a graduation project by Kameyama Yohei, who was a student at a video vocational school at the time. It was broadcast on television from July 2025 and also distributed on YouTube, where it has gained popularity, with the total number of views on the official YouTube channel exceeding 200 million. The re-edited theatrical version will re-edit all 12 episodes and add new parts. It will be released on February 6th.
