Actor Rio Uchida recently attended a press conference in Tokyo for the drama series "Drama Choose! 'Rakudokudokukon'" (TV Tokyo, Tuesday midnight, 12:30am), which will begin airing on January 6th. She spoke about "what she pours her love into."
When asked by the station's MC, announcer Furuhat Emika, "Is there anything that you are passionate about?" Uchida replied, "I've always loved submarines, and I think they are the thing I love most in the entertainment industry. I have a lot of love for submarines, and I research them a lot. I'm a bit of a submarine fanatic."
Furthermore, when he revealed that "I've recently become addicted to nata de coco," co-star Kentaro Ito commented, "You're quite late in coming (to this boom)." Nata de coco became a big hit around 1993, but Uchida smiled and said, "It's only now that it's booming."
She also said, "I think nata de coco is really delicious. If I were to have a middle name, I think 'Uchida Nata de Coco Rio' would be good."
The drama is based on Mei Yamada's manga "Rakutotsukkon ~The Talented Woman is Chosen~," which became a hot topic for its depiction of a nasty pregnancy battle between an ex-wife and a current wife. Chiharu (Uchida) marries psychiatrist Tsukasa (Ito) after many years of dating, but is unable to have children, and is feeling depressed. Then, a young woman named Emiru (Nakamura Yurika), who is pregnant with Tsukasa's child, appears before Chiharu... and so the story unfolds.
