Before singing, Kubota expressed her enthusiasm, saying, "It's been 35 years since my last performance, but this year marks the 40th anniversary of my debut, so I'd like to express my gratitude. I'd like to do a medley of songs that will make people think, 'I'm happy to hear this,' or 'I wonder if they'll sing this?'"
On stage, they performed a medley of three songs, "1, 2, Play," "Missing," and "LA・LA・LA LOVE SONG," captivating the audience with their stunning performance.
Now 63 years old, Kubota's unchanged appearance and singing voice have drawn comments of surprise, such as "It's amazing how her performance hasn't changed at all since then," "63 years old?! Time has stood still...," "Isn't she too young? She looked like she was about 43 without any enhancements, right?", "She really is an amazing singer," "You don't feel her age at all," "What's up with her sense of groove," and "The distance between the microphone and her mouth is so far it's laughable. How can the microphone pick up her voice from that position?"
The theme of the 76th NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen was "Connecting, Connecting, New Year's Eve," and the event was hosted by Hiroiki Ariyoshi, Haruka Ayase, Mio Imada, and announcer Naoko Suzuki.
