It has been announced that the worldwide box office revenue of the anime film " Chainsaw Man Chainsaw Man : Reze Arc," based on the popular manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto , has surpassed 27.88 billion yen. The film was released in over 100 countries and regions, starting in Japan on September 19th, and as of December 7th, overseas box office revenue had reached 118.24 million dollars (approximately 18.4 billion yen, converted at 156 yen to the dollar). Combined with domestic box office revenue of approximately 9.48 billion yen as of the same date, the total worldwide box office revenue has surpassed 27.88 billion yen.
Following its success, it has been announced that the first all-night screening will be held at five theaters in five cities across Japan from 11:30 PM on December 19th. The screening will include the re-edited 12 episodes of the TV anime, the " Chainsaw Man Omnibus" which includes the animated version of the final episode of the original manga, "Chainsaw Biyori," and "Chainsaw Man Reze Arc."
The all-night screenings will be held at TOHO Cinemas Shinjuku (Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo), TOHO Cinemas Namba (Chuo Ward, Osaka City), TOHO Cinemas Susukino (Chuo Ward, Sapporo City), Midland Square Cinema (Nakamura Ward, Nagoya City), and T-Joy Hakata (Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City). As a special gift for attendees, a set of three scene cards featuring cuts from the main feature and opening footage of "Reze Arc" will be presented.
A video of Reze dancing to the theme song "IRIS OUT" by singer-songwriter Kenshi Yonezu has been released on YouTube. Produced by MAPPA, the animation studio, the video also shows Reze pulling out the pins from her neck in time with the line "Bon!"
"Chainsaw Man" is a dark hero action story that follows Denji, a boy possessed by a demon, as he works as a devil hunter. Part 1 was serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha) from December 2018 to December 2020. Part 2 has been serialized on Shueisha's manga app "Shonen Jump +" since July 2022. The total number of copies of the comics published has exceeded 34 million.
The "Reze" arc, which also appeared at the end of the TV anime series that aired from October to December 2022, tells the story of Reze and the main character, Denji, who became a hot topic. While Denji is excited about a date with his crush, Makima, he takes shelter from the rain and meets Reze, a young girl who works at a cafe. The episode will be directed by Tatsuya Yoshihara, who served as the action director for the TV anime, and produced by MAPPA.
