NHK General TV's "Butterfly Effect: The Century of Images" (Mondays at 10 p.m.) will broadcast "The Price of Glory: The Japanese American Regimental Combat Team" on December 8th. The story revolves around the fierce battles of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, the most highly decorated Japanese American unit of World War II. They proved their loyalty to America through the shedding of blood.
On December 8th, 84 years ago, Japan and the United States entered into war. This marked the beginning of intense hatred directed at Japanese Americans living in America. To clear their name, young second-generation Japanese Americans volunteered for the U.S. military, their motto "Go for it!" On the European front, they successfully rescued isolated white troops and even broke through the impregnable German defense line. However, their casualty rate was higher than any other unit, with 650 killed and 3,500 wounded out of 10,000 men. The price of glory was too high. Narrated by announcer Toshie Ito.
