Talent Yoshizumi Ishihara appeared on Kuroyanagi Tetsuko's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi), which aired on November 14th, and shared an episode about his father, Shintaro Ishihara, who passed away three years ago.
Shintaro once told Yoshizumi, "If you don't get married by the time you're 40, I'll disown you." Looking back, Yoshizumi said, "My father got married and did what he loved, but I think having children must have been fun. So I think he thought it would be good for me to know about those things."
At the age of 40, she married a doctor 12 years younger than her. "It's not like I listened to what my father said or anything (laughs). We just had a connection, and it wasn't a passionate love affair, but when we met, I knew we had to get married," she recalled. She revealed that they decided to get married three months after meeting.
At the time, the eldest and third sons of the Ishihara family had already gotten married. "This is the third time, so my father is tired of his son's wedding. He wants it to be over quickly and kept short," he said. Shintaro said he didn't want to sit at the side of the venue as a relative.
"Who would normally say something like that? 'I don't like the side seats because they're boring, get a better seat.' We're not going to see a play," Yoshizumi said with a wry smile. At the wedding, six people, including both parents, lined up in Takasago, and he said, "It was like a summit press conference. It was pretty intense."
