NHK's popular nature program "Darwin's Coming!" (General) will broadcast "New Discovery! The Secret Home Life of the Monster Gecko" from 7:30 pm on October 26th. The special feature focuses on the giant tokay gecko, a reptile that lives in private homes in Thailand, and the mysterious ecology of the group life is revealed through close coverage.
Tokay geckos are reliable "guardians of the home," taking advantage of their huge bodies of over 30 centimeters to eat scary scorpions and centipedes that sneak up on homes.
Surprisingly, their detailed lifestyle remained a mystery, but with the full cooperation of the homeowners, we conducted a 24-hour in-depth investigation into their homes. Contrary to the common belief that reptiles generally live solitary lives, we were able to capture the surprising lifestyle of these creatures, who live in large groups that appear to be family members. We will uncover the unknown secrets of their "home life."
