NHK Special's regular broadcast of the popular series "Unsolved Cases" (General TV, Saturdays at 10 PM). On October 18th, they will broadcast "File.02 North Korean Abduction Case." Here we will introduce the drama version that will be broadcast from 7:30 PM.
This dramatizes the behind-the-scenes investigations into the North Korean abduction cases, with the theme "What is preventing the resolution of abduction cases?" Based on interviews with senior officials of the Foreign Affairs Police, who have been in conflict with North Korea for many years, it delves into the unknown battle with North Korean operatives. Furthermore, Hasuike Kaoru, who was abducted by North Korea in 1978 and forced to live there for 24 years, also cooperated in the production. Kora Kengo plays the role of a Foreign Affairs Police investigator. Tanaka Shunsuke plays Hasuike Kaoru, and Okura Koji also appears. It looks at the people who continued to struggle between the state and the individual.
Beginning in the late 1970s, a series of disappearances of Japanese citizens began across Japan. It was later revealed that they were abducted by North Korea, but at the time, the police were unable to grasp the details and the investigation was proving difficult. Kitami (Takara), of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department's Public Security Bureau's Foreign Affairs Division 2, was pursuing North Korean agent Choi Seung-cheol based on information received by his superior. Kitami and his team were convinced that Choi was a major agent with an important mission, so they continued to monitor and tail him.
However, Choi slips through the investigation net and disappears without a trace. This man is none other than the man who abducted Hasuike Kaoru (Tanaka) in Kashiwazaki City, Niigata Prefecture. Abducted by North Korea, Hasuike is kept under constant surveillance, suppressing his desire to return home and being forced to teach Japanese to North Korean operatives. Then Choi appears. Spending his days with his abductor, and in the twisted relationship between victim and perpetrator, Hasuike continues to search for a way to survive. In the mid-1980s, a series of incidents occurred in Japan, including the bombing of a Korean Air flight, suggesting North Korea's involvement in the abduction of Japanese citizens. Meanwhile, Kitami and the foreign affairs police are conducting a full-scale investigation, tossed about by diplomacy and politics and hindered by the wall of "national interest"...
