Singer and actor Masaharu Fukuyama appeared on stage with co-star Kasumi Arimura and others at the opening day stage greeting for his starring movie "Black Showman" (directed by Ryo Tanaka) held in Tokyo on September 12th.
The film is based on a novel by Keigo Higashino. At the end of the event, Higashino read out a message expressing his hopes for the sequel, saying, "How about some Tom Cruise-style action next time?" Upon hearing this, Fukuyama, referring to Cruise's action scenes, such as grabbing onto a flying plane, became enthusiastic and said, "If Sensei tells me to fly, I have no choice but to fly too. Thank you Sensei."
Fukuyama said that as the "leader" he even joined in on the cast chatting on set, and that his co-star Sae Okazaki "quickly came over to talk about vitamins." He also revealed that he had to make about 20 mistakes during a magic trick scene where he lit and extinguished a Zippo lighter. Okazaki, Atsushi Ito, Katsuhisa Namase, and director Tanaka also appeared on stage to greet the cast.
The film begins with the murder of former junior high school teacher Eiichi Kamio (Toru Nakamura), and his daughter Mayo Kamio (Arimura), who was due to be married in two months, suddenly receiving news of his death and returning to her hometown. Wanting to know the truth about why Eiichi was killed, Mayo is approached by her uncle, Takeshi Kamio (Fukuyama). Armed with his exceptional magic tricks, his wicked sleight of hand, and his skillful people-watching and leading questions on a mentalist's level, Mayo takes on the mystery of the murder... and that's the story.
