NHK BS will broadcast a program following the giant panda Tintin, titled "Gorogoro Panda Diary: Tintin and Two Zookeepers, Sometimes a Veterinarian," from 9:00 p.m. on September 20th.
The female Tantan came to Japan from China in 2000 along with the male Koukou as a symbol of the recovery from the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake. With a small, fluffy body and short limbs, her adorable, stuffed animal-like appearance brought brightness and smiles to the people of Kobe who were feeling down after the disaster.
However, Tintin's life was far from smooth. She lost her newborn baby, and her partner Koukou suddenly died. Left alone at the zoo, Tintin developed a heart condition and was in grave danger of dying. Two zookeepers and a veterinarian continued to stay by Tintin's side through it all. The sight of Tintin undergoing a world-first treatment that had never been experienced even in China, inspired and inspired many people.
Then, on March 31st of last year, surrounded by two keepers and a veterinarian, Tintin passed away peacefully at the age of 28, which is equivalent to nearly 100 years old in human years. Based on the extensive footage that has been shot since 2020, the program will look back on Tintin's days in Kobe and highlight how many people have supported him.
Voice actress Akari Kito, who narrates the program, commented, "I was really happy to be able to meet Tintin again. It made me realize once again how much Tintin has been watched over and loved by the zookeepers, veterinarians, and so many fans. I hope everyone will be comforted by Tintin's lovely smile."
