It has been announced that the TV anime "Shabake," based on the popular novel series "Shabake" by Megumi Hatanaka, will be broadcast on Fuji TV's anime slot "Noitamina" every Friday at 11:30 pm starting October 3rd. Additional cast members have also been announced, including Daisuke Namikawa as the Peeping Screen, Seiichiro Yamashita as Matsunosuke, Shinba Tsuchiya as Eikichi, Akira Sekine as Shinya Takahashi Suzuhiko, Shinya Takahashi as Noderabou, Misako Tomioka as the Otter, Akane Matsunaga as Naruie, Aika Wakuno, and Takako Tanaka.
The second key visual and second promotional video have been released, featuring the main character Ichitaro, the yokai's assistants Nikichi and Sasuke, and Byobu Nozokira. It has also been announced that the music unit KAFUNE will be performing the ending theme "Myakumyaku."
KAFUNE commented, "In the world of Shabake, which conveys the preciousness and kindness of caring for someone, there is a sense of reality to the dark, deep-seated emotions and thoughts that everyone has that are not easily accessible, and I felt beauty in the strength of the characters that appear. 'Myakumyaku' is a song that was created to sympathize with the complexity of the heart and the feelings of Ichitaro and his friends who continue to look forward despite this. I would be happy if this song could exist as a part of the beautiful yet sad world of Shabake."
To commemorate the anime adaptation, a "Shabake Fair" will be held at bookstores nationwide from mid-September. The "Shabake" paperback series will be released with special covers featuring characters from the anime.
"Shabake" is a popular novel series that has sold over 10 million copies. Set in the Edo period, it is a period mystery drama about a sickly young man named Ichitaro and the demons around him who solve difficult and unusual cases. In 2006, it won the "1st Yoshikawa Eiji Bunko Award."
The anime will be directed by Takahiro Okawa and produced by BN Pictures, the studio behind the Aikatsu! and Gintama series. Creator Kujira will be in charge of the opening theme, "Parade of Life."
