It has been announced that the romantic mystery film "Wuthering Heights" (directed by Emerald Fennell), starring and produced by Hollywood actor Margot Robbie, will be released in 2026. A trailer and teaser visual have been released.
Robbie will star in and produce the film, following her 2023 hit "Barbie" (directed by Greta Gerwig).
The film is based on the best-selling novel "Wuthering Heights," published in 1847 by British author Emily Bronte and her only work. As one of the world's most well-known and enduring masterpieces, it has been translated and published in many countries and adapted into numerous stage plays. It has also been adapted into film many times, and continues to influence creators around the world.
The film includes the 1939 film directed by William Wyler and starring Laurence Olivier, which was nominated for eight Academy Awards, as well as the 1992 film directed by Peter Kosminsky and starring Juliette Binoche and Ralph Fiennes. In Japan, the 1988 film directed by Yoshishige Yoshida and starring Yusaku Matsuda is well known.
The story is set in Yorkshire, in the north of England. Catherine (Robbie), the beautiful daughter of the Earnshaw family who lives in the desolate Wuthering Heights mansion, and Heathcliff (Jacob Elordi), an orphan who has been taken in by the mansion, are two people of different social classes who long for each other and fall passionately in love. Their love, which they vow to be eternal, eventually transforms into a mad, destructive revenge, causing many tragedies...
The trailer, released today, depicts the love that ignites between the two after their fateful encounter, with vibrantly colored visuals and Charli XCX's lustrous music. Breathtaking eye contact and rising heartbeats... the entire screen seems dominated by the uncontrollable passion of the two. Meanwhile, there are a succession of ominous scenes, including Catherine in her bridal attire with a bouquet in hand, Heathcliff running across the barren land, the mansion shaking in a storm, and the people surrounding the two, as their destinies intertwine. The teaser visual released at the same time shows Catherine and Heathcliff with their lips pressed together, expressing their rising emotions.It captures a moment of love between the two that will eventually lead to their downfall, and is a visual that raises expectations for the main film.
