It has been announced that a 4K remaster of the 1995 animated film "Ghost in the Shell" (directed by Mamoru Oshii) will be shown again for a limited two-week revival starting October 31st at 84 cinemas nationwide.
"Ghost in the Shell" is a science fiction manga by Masamune Shirow that began serialization in 1989 in the "Young Magazine Pirate Edition," a supplement to the manga magazine "Young Magazine" (Kodansha). It depicts Public Security Section 9 (Ghost in the Shell), led by Motoko Kusanagi with exceptional abilities in cyber warfare and combat, as they take on increasingly sophisticated and violent crimes.
The animated film "Ghost in the Shell" follows Motoko Kusanagi and other members of Public Security Section 9 as they pursue a hacker known as the Puppet Master, who is on an international wanted list. The film gained popularity overseas, reaching number one on the US Billboard video charts for the week. A 4K remaster was released in September 2021.
