"National Treasure" surpasses 11 billion yen in box office revenue, becoming the second highest-grossing live-action Japanese film of all time

It has been announced that the box office revenue of the film "National Treasure" (directed by Lee Sang-il), starring actor Ryo Yoshizawa, which was released on June 6th, has surpassed 11 billion yen. In the all-time box office rankings for live-action Japanese films, it surpasses "Antarctica" (1983, 11 billion yen) and is now second only to "Bayside Shakedown 2: Close the Rainbow Bridge!" (2003, 17.35 billion yen). In the 77 days since its release on August 21st, the film has attracted approximately 7.82 million viewers.

The film is based on the novel of the same name by Shuichi Yoshida (published by Asahi Shimbun Publications). Set in post-war Japan during the period of rapid economic growth, the story follows the protagonist Kikuo (Ken Watanabe Ken), who meets Hanjiro's heir, Shunsuke (Ryusei Yokohama). The film depicts the two men of completely different bloodlines risking their lives to devote their lives to the art.
