"A House Alone" (ABC TV/TV Asahi, Sunday 7:58 pm) is a variety show that uses satellite images to search for secluded houses. In the August 17th broadcast, they visit a 74-year-old man who enjoys living in harmony with nature deep in the mountains of Wakayama Prefecture.
The search team visited a man they featured in a July 13th broadcast who calls himself "the master" after building his dream home on an island in a clear stream in Wakayama Prefecture. The man lives along a river that runs through the valley, more than 40 minutes by car through the mountains from the nearest settlement. "There's no place like this," the man said with a smile. 20 years ago, he bought a vacant house that had once been occupied by a relative and began living in two places.
His lifestyle is one of coexistence with the magnificent nature, enjoying the bounty of the mountains and rivers. He demonstrates his mountain-playing mastery through beekeeping with Japanese honeybees, a tradition passed down from his predecessors, catching wild eels that grow upstream in the mountains, and cooking wild game. The search team closely follows the lifestyle of this man who knows all about enjoying nature.
The guests were entertainer Hirohide Yakumaru and musician Mahiru Koda. Yakumaru, who was watching the video, was deeply moved, saying, "Seeing them enjoying life in the mountains with the manners passed down for generations, it felt like I was seeing the ideal way of life."
