Rakugo performer Tatekawa Shiraku will appear on NHK's documentary program "Family History" (General), which will be broadcast from 10:00 pm on August 16th. The program delves into the roots of Shiraku, who grew up in a diverse and talented family: his grandfather was a master of moxibustion, his father was a guitarist and kendama expert, and his mother was a Nagauta shamisen teacher.
Everyone in Shiraku's family has pursued the path they love. His grandfather was a university-educated acupuncturist, which was rare in the past, and made a name for himself as a master of moxibustion. His father was a professional classical guitarist and a versatile hobbyist. He was such an expert at Kendama and darts that he even wrote introductory books on them. His mother was a Nagauta shamisen teacher.
Although each member of his family walked a different path, they say they shared an abundance of love, and young Shiraku chose to pursue a career in rakugo.
