It has been announced that the Japanese dubbed and subtitled versions of the new film "The Legend of Hei 2: The Future We Want", based on the popular Chinese animated feature film "The Legend of Hei", will be released simultaneously on November 7th. The film will be released on a memorable day, exactly five years after the release of the dubbed version of the previous film. It was also announced that Mamoru Miyano, who played Mugen from the previous film, will be reprising his role. The third teaser visual featuring Xiaohei and Mugen and the first special trailer have been released.
The new work is set two years after the previous film. Xiaohei was living a peaceful life in a small village with his master Mugen, but an attack on a certain fairy hall threatens the long-maintained peace of the fairy world. A mission from the fairy hall separates Xiaohei and Mugen, and their fates begin to change dramatically. As they face threats one after another, Xiaohei and his senior disciple Ruye set out on a new adventure in search of the truth... This is the story. Kana Hanazawa will continue to voice the role of Xiaohei in the Japanese dubbed version.
"The Legend of Hei" is produced by Chinese animator and animation director MTJJ and Hanmu Chunhua (HMCH) Studio. The web animation series was released on a video site in March 2011 and gained popularity, and the movie version was later released. The movie version was a hit, grossing about 315 million RMB (about 4.9 billion yen) in box office revenue in China.
A subtitled version was released in Japan in September 2019, and a Japanese dubbed version was released in November 2020. The dubbed version had a long run of screenings lasting about six months, and grossed over 520 million yen.
