It has been revealed that the original TV commercial for Koikeya's corn snack "Polinky," known for its opening line "Polinky, Polinky, the secret of the triangle," will be revived in its entirety to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the product's release.
"Polynkey" is a triangular corn snack that was released in 1990. The first TV commercial that aired when it was released featured the "Three Polynkeys," Jean, Paul, and Belle, who were modeled after Polynkeys, dancing and singing, "Polynkey, Polynkey, the secret to the triangle is Polynkey, Polynkey, the secret to our deliciousness is...". The surreal and comical content of the commercial, combined with the cuteness of the "Three Polynkeys," created a buzz. It was created by Masahiko Sato, who later created many hits such as "Dango 3 Brothers" and "Pitagoras Switch."
In order to perfectly reproduce the TV commercial from 35 years ago, we sought out as many staff members who worked on the past commercials as possible, including those involved in filming and art production, to help us out. The "Three Polinkies" puppets used in the filming 35 years ago no longer exist, so a new one was made by a puppeteer from 35 years ago.
The filming was done in the same way as 35 years ago, with the Three Po Rinkees puppets hung from a string and moved slightly while still images were taken frame by frame using stop-motion filming. Using current digital technology, it would have been possible to significantly reduce the amount of work and time required, but in order to value the atmosphere that emanates from the footage, they ignored work efficiency and went for the old-fashioned filming method. Hirokazu Minegishi, a master stop-motion animator who operated the Three Po Rinkees in the fourth TV commercial that aired about 30 years ago, was in charge of adjusting the puppets.
The commercial, "Polynkey's 35th Year Secret," has achieved a perfect reproduction of the Three Polynkeys visuals, the details of the background Polynkey Theatre, the timing of the minute movements, and even the 4:3 screen frame ratio, but the footage and narration in the scenes in which the product is shown have been updated to modern versions. The narration, which was previously "crispy triangle," has been changed to "crunchy triangle" to match the new product's different texture. The Koikeya logo engraved on the curtain of the Polynkey Theatre has been changed to the current design. The narration voice also sounds almost the same, but a narrator with a very similar voice was selected through auditions for recording.
The commercials will begin airing from July 12th. To coincide with the broadcast, the new product "Crispy Shrimp Porinky Shrimp Salt" will be released in convenience stores nationwide from the 7th, and in supermarkets nationwide from the 14th.
