"WIND BREAKER" to be made into a live-action movie! Super Teaser trailer released

It has been revealed that "WIND BREAKER," a popular yankee manga by Satoru Nii being serialized on Kodansha's web manga service "Magapoke," will be made into a live-action movie that will be released in December. The comic has sold over 8 million copies in total and is a popular work that has also been made into a TV anime. The final episode of the second season of the TV anime was broadcast late at night on June 19th on the MBS/TBS late-night anime slot "Super Animeism TURBO," and the live-action movie was announced. The movie will be directed by Hagiwara Kentaro, who has worked on "Blue Period" and "30 Minutes to Say Goodbye," and the script will be written by Masaike Yosuke, who has worked on "Haken Anime!".

The visual "First Look" has been released, showing a back shot of the six members of the Bofurin , a group that protects the town of Fuurin High School , which appears in the film. A super Teaser trailer showing the main character, Haruka Sakura , facing off against the enemy has also been released.

"WIND BREAKER" began serialization on Magapoke in January 2021. It depicts the story of the protagonist, Haruka Sakura, who has lived a lonely life with only fighting as a redeeming quality, enrolling in Fuurin High School, once feared as a den of delinquents, and fighting as a member of the Bofurin group that protects the town. In 2022, it won the "Recommended Comics 2022 Selected by Booksellers Nationwide" award, and was made into a TV anime in 2024. The second season of the TV anime began in April this year, and the final episode aired late at night on June 19th.

The film was shot entirely on location in Okinawa Prefecture between February and April this year. The set for the Kofu Shopping Arcade, which is the heart of the story and is protected by the Bofurin, was built with the cooperation of the prefecture, local government, and local residents, and an actual shopping arcade was rented and decorated one store at a time. A large open set was created, with the arch of the Kofu Shopping Arcade and the signboard with the Bofurin' message painted on it constructed from scratch.

Director Hagiwara commented, "This film is a challenge to the seemingly outdated genre of 'yankee movies.' You could also say it's a break from stereotypes.
