It has been revealed that actor Nagase Masatoshi will play Masami Nagasawa , the solitary genius ukiyo-e artist and father of Katsushika Oui, played by Nagasawa Oui , in the film " Oi, Oui " (directed by Omori Tatsushi, scheduled for release on October 17th), starring Nagasawa Masami.
The film is Nagasawa's first period drama starring role, and marks her second collaboration with director Omori since "Mother" (2020). It depicts the life of Katsushika Oi, who couldn't make tea or do needlework, but used her artistic talent and boldness inherited from her parents to make her way through a male-dominated society.
Regarding the atmosphere on set, Nagase commented, "It was a wonderful set that was like a collaborative work painted with the brushes of Director Omori Tatsushi, Masami Nagasawa, and the various brushes that everyone brought, and ink of various concentrations. The days I spent living as Katsushika Hokusai were something I will never forget."
He continued, "Whenever I worry about the outcome of my unstable, fluctuating emotions, I suddenly realize that Director Omori's eyes are always there for me." He also revealed his trust in Nagasawa, saying, "Oei (Oui) was the 'heart' of Hokusai, who lived boldly and freely. Masami Nagasawa was just the same to me."
